Princeton, New Jersey, is a historic town. Known primarily for its Ivy League Princeton University, and its role in the Revolutionary War, Princeton has the history and spirit of New Jersey deeply embedded within it. Roughly twenty minutes from Lambertville and our custom furniture showroom, we know Princeton like our own backyard. If you’re looking to spend a pleasant day soaking in the arts and appreciating nature, then continue below to see four great things you can do while in Princeton.
Princeton University Art Museum
The Princeton University Art Museum is one of the nation’s finest art museums, which is impressive for a college. The museum houses collections of over 72,000 works of art, spanning 5,000 years of human history and incorporates all the world’s major cultures. The Museum also presents special exhibitions and educational programs throughout the year. Most importantly, admission is free, making this an amazing spot where you can easily spend hours exploring its paintings, sculptures, artifacts, and galleries.
Princeton Battlefield State Park
The Princeton Battlefield is where American and British troops fought each other on January 3, 1777 in the Battle of Princeton during the American Revolutionary War. This success, shortly after Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River, helped improve American morale.
Part of the battlefield is now a state park, open to the public year-round. It is minutes away from the University, and has wide-open spaces, making it perfect for picnics, throwing a frisbee, or sunning on a hot day. The park also has swings for children, and some historical features that can make the trip a learning experience as well.
Lake Carnegie
Lake Carnegie is a manmade lake privately owned by Princeton University, and is used by its rowing team. However, the grounds are open to the public, and visitors can spend their time ice skating, taking a stroll, or picnicking. The lake is also home to a variety of fish such as bass, carp, catfish, and trout, making it an excellent spot for fishing. For a beautiful day outdoors, Lake Carnegie is a trove of simplicity and beauty.
Terhune Orchards & Winery
Only a few minutes outside of historic Princeton is Terhune Orchards & Winery, one of Princeton’s most popular farms.
In addition to delicious homemade apple pies and cider, there are a variety of activities perfect for dates and children. You can pick your own apples and pumpkins in the orchard, play with farm animals such as goats, cows, and chickens, visit the Farm Store, and, of course, stock up on their famous apple pies or bring home a bottle of wine.
Princeton is a vibrant town brimming with art, food, and history, plenty for multiple visits. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to check out Princeton.
